Norwich Film Festival Awards
A Celebratory Night of Storytelling
What an inspiring evening at this year’s Norwich Film Festival awards!
I was honoured to serve as a judge for the Animation Short Film and Student Film categories. The ceremony itself was lifted by the presence of some truly dedicated patrons of the arts including, Stephen Fry and Olivia Colman, whose support for emerging filmmakers continues to make a real difference.
One of the standout moments was celebrating the team behind Two Black Boys in Paradise. Enormous congratulations to Director Baz Sells and Producer Ben Jackson for winning Best Animated Short Film. Their film is a profoundly moving and beautifully realised piece of work that explores identity, belonging, and self acceptance.

Equally deserved winner of the Student Film category was was Walud, directed by Daood Alabdulaa and Louise Zenker. A groundbreaking powerful testament to human resilience and the complexity of cultural identity, delivering an intimate portrait of life in the Syrian desert.
It was a wonderful evening that showcased why festivals like Norwich continue to be so vital for the future of filmmaking, and to see inclusion and representation at the heart of the festivals winners.
